Câinele soldatului

Rănit la războaie, soldatul căzuse,
Şi-n puţine zile chinuit muri,
Departe de-o mumă care îl crescuse,
Şi care-l iubi!

Sărman, fără rude, pe ţărmuri străine,
N-avea nici prieteni, nici un ajutor;
Nu era fiinţă care să suspine
Pentr-un trecător!

Singurul tovarăş de nenorocire,
Singura-i avere, un câine iubit,
Şedea lângă dânsul şi-n mare mâhnire
Părea adâncit.

Acum tot e gata pentru îngropare,
Acum ridic trupul pe mâini de soldaţi,
Cinste hotărâtă acelora care
Mor pentru-mpăraţi.

În fruntea paradei câinele porneşte,
Din ochii lui pică lacrimi pe pământ,
Ca un iubit frate el îl însoţeşte
Până la mormânt.

Aci se opreşte, aci se aşează,
Nimic nu îl face a se depărta:
Aşteaptă să-l strige, crede c-o să-l vază
Când s-o deştepta!

Câteodată cearcă piatra s-o ridice,
Câteodată latră după-un călător,
Cuprins de durere: Vino, parc-ar zice,
Să-mi dai ajutor.

Apoi când străinul de milă voieşte
A-l trage deoparte şi hrană a-i da,
El îşi pleacă capul, în pământ priveşte,
Şi nimic nu vrea!

De două ori noaptea cu umbrele sale
Emisferul nostru l-a învăluit,
Şi sărmanul câine din locul de jale
A fost nelipsit!

Dar în dimineaţa acea viitoare,
Pe când se deşteaptă omul muncitor,
Zăcea lângă groapă, mort de întristare,
Câinele Azor!

Ain't Nobody Here But Us Chickens

One night farmer Brown was takin' the airs
Locked up the barnyard with the greatest of care
Down in the hen house, somethin' stirred
When he shouted, 'Who's there?'
This is what he heard

“There ain't nobody here but us chickens
There ain't nobody here at all
So calm yourself and stop that fuss
There ain't nobody here but us
We chickens tryin' to sleep and you butt in
And hobble, hobble hobble hobble with your chin”

“There ain't nobody here but us chickens
There ain't nobody here at all
You're stompin' around and shakin' the ground
You're kickin' up an awful dust
We chicken's tryin' to sleep and you butt in
And hobble, hobble hobble hobble, it's a sin”

“Tomorrow is a busy day
We got things to do, We got eggs to lay
We got ground to dig and worms to scratch
It takes a lot of settin', gettin' chicks to hatch”

“Ohh, there ain't nobody here but us chickens
There ain't nobody here at all
So quiet yourself and stop that fuss
There ain't nobody here but us
Kindly point that gun the other way
And hobble, hobble hobble of and hit the hay”

“Hey, hey, boss man, what do ya say?
It's easy pickings
Ain't nobody here but us chickens”

Fuck'n Up

Snuck you out of your bedroom window-
Almost every night.
We'd park out front and watch the cars fly by.
Backseat lovers in a hurricane-
Never wanted to go home.
Back by five so your parents never know.

Oh, here's to growing up-
And always fuck'n up.
Oh, here's to growing up-
And always fuck'n up.

You let me sleep on your couch that winter-
At your college dorm,
When I didn't have the strength to move back home.
Your father offered me a job that summer-
At the family store.
Son, what are you wasting your life for?

Oh, here's to growing up-
And always fuck'n up.
Oh, here's to growing up-
And always fuck'n up.

Ohh-
Ohh.

Oh, here's to growing up-
And always fuck'n up.
Oh, here's to growing up-
And always fuck'n up.

Called you from so many hotel lobbies-
Always out on the road.
Oh, how all the years just come and go.
We had to sell the car last fall-
So you never made it to the shows.
Another reason why we cried
When we heard my song on the radio.

Oh, here's to growing up-
And always fuck'n up.
Oh, here's to growing up-
And always fuck'n up.

Oh, here's to growing up-
And never giving up, oh.

Oh, here's to growing up-
And always fuck'n up.
Ohh-
Ohh.
Ohh-
Ohh.
Ohh-
Ohh.
Ohh-
Ohh.

Sound Of The Streets

She walks the streets of summer
Inside her there's no future
She walks the streets to pass the time.
The cash machines are laughing
At plastic people passing
She walks the streets to pass the time.

Sadie, Sadie hear the sound of the streets
Insane as anything, ah
Sadie, Sadie knows the sound of the streets
It's insane as anything, ah.

She sees the midnight taxis
The toilets and the backstreet's
She feels the wheels and needs a line
Outside there's crazy parties
There's painted faces laughing
So many ways to pass the time.

Sadie, Sadie hear the sound of the streets
Insane as anything, ah
Sadie, Sadie knows the sound of the streets
It's insane as anything, ah.

She walks the streets of summer
Inside her there's no future
She walks the streets to pass the time
Inside she feels like winter
For the child that died within her
She walks the streets to pass the time.

Sadie, Sadie hear the sound of the streets
Insane as anything, ah ah
Sadie, Sadie knows the sound of the streets
It's insane as anything, ah.

Candle In The Wind

Goodbye Norma Jeane
Though I never knew you at all
You had the grace to hold yourself
While those around you crawled
They crawled out of the woodwork
And they whispered into your brain
They set you on the treadmill
And they made you change your name

And it seems to me you lived your life
Like a candle in the wind
Never knowing who to cling to
When the rain set in
And I would've liked to have known you
But I was just a kid
Your candle burned out long before
Your legend ever did

Loneliness was tough
The toughest role you ever played
Hollywood created a superstar
And pain was the price you paid
Even when you died
Oh the press still hounded you
All the papers had to say
Was that Marilyn was found in the nude

And it seems to me you lived your life
Like a candle in the wind
Never knowing who to cling to
When the rain set in
And I would've liked to have known you
But I was just a kid
Your candle burned out long before
Your legend ever did

Goodbye Norma Jeane
Though I never knew you at all
You had the grace to hold yourself
While those around you crawled
Goodbye Norma Jeane
From the young man in the 22nd row
Who sees you as something more than sexual
More than just our Marilyn Monroe

And it seems to me you lived your life
Like a candle in the wind
Never knowing who to cling to
When the rain set in
And I would've liked to have known you
But I was just a kid
Your candle burned out long before
Your legend ever did
Your candle burned out long before
Your legend ever did
